One Day in Bangkok...

Bangkok is overwhelming, as is SE Asia in general as I found out. The hustle and bustle...the pungent smells of cooking, spices, sweat, motor fumes, and sewage...it all blends together in one overwhelming wave that crashes over you. In a country just a little smaller than the state of Texas, with a population of 67 million people, things are bound to get hectic...(the country of Thailand is 3 times larger than the state of Wisconsin with about 12 times larger population, by the way...)

I was very surprised to hear roosters crow even in downtown Bangkok! I had expected to hear lau qaib quaj in the smaller towns and villages, but not in the big city...and yet, I could hear them loud and clear from our hotel room.

View from the rooftop spa at our hotel ...
Nouvo City hotel, Samsen Rd., Bangkok...

Sidewalk view of the hotel

Street view of Samsen Road: We did not get fitted for Armani suits, but we did shop quite a bit at the 7-11! Very convenient, particularly during Txi's two day bout of food poisoning. Bought a lot of Gatorade and various stomach medicines...

The spa view on the rooftop of our hotel in Bangkok...didn't use the spa, but did enjoy the views!

Chilling with elephant towels inside the hotel room in Bangkok...

The continental breakfasts were AWESOME!

So many options for breakfast and everything was yummy!

Care for an omelette?

Mmmmmmmm.....

Niam's breakfast...

My breakfast...the dragonfruit was delicious! So fresh!
Wandering around downtown Bangkok...

Street view while walking over a footbridge...

The amount of electrical wiring all around Bangkok and other metro areas of SE Asia is incredible!
There were memorials and miles of black and white banners hung from almost every business and courtyard in honor of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away in October 2016.

Street art in downtown Bangkok on the outer walls of the U.S. Embassy illustrating the friendly relationship between the two countries...

An elementary school in the heart of downtown Bangkok, down the street from the huge skyscraper businesses, hotels, and embassy buildings.
We were so excited for our first meal in Thailand! Do we choose from the throngs of street vendors cooking along the side streets? Do we search on-line for places we should eat while in Bangkok? We chose to just walk around and stop at the first place that looked really good to us and that just happened to be a small restaurant right around the corner from our hotel.

Niam was happy with her mango smoothie and shrimp noodle dish...

...but my chicken curry was the best thing on the table!

Eggrolls are good, but homemade is always best!

Txi was so excited to try his first pad thai dish in Thailand! (Note the crazed look in his eye...) This may have been the culprit of the next day's bout of food poisoning...

...but it sure looks delicious!
